Jefferson Credit Union, a financial institution based in Hoover, Alabama, with assets of $83 million, has been targeted by the RansomHouse ransomware group. The attack was announced on the group's dark web leak site, which also includes a link to the credit union's website. The incident is part of a broader trend of ransomware attacks on credit unions, with at least two other institutions, Public Employees Credit Union in Austin, Texas, and Vantage Point Credit Union in Hopewell, Virginia, also reportedly affected.

The attack on Jefferson Credit Union is significant because it highlights the vulnerability of financial institutions to cyber threats. This shift in strategy has led to an increase in the number of known ransomware victims, with the number surging from 185 to 283 between February and March 2023.
