Sysco Cyberattack Exposes Employee Data
Sysco, a Texas-based food distribution corporation, has disclosed that 126,243 current and former employees may have had their sensitive data stolen in a cyberattack in January. In a notification letter sent to impacted individuals, the company said that while its systems were infiltrated on January 14th, it only discovered the breach nearly two months later. Sysco has stressed that the incident did not affect operational systems, business functions, and customer services.
"While we cannot confirm at this time specifically what information may have been impacted for each individual colleague, we believe it could include some combination of the following data: personal information provided to Sysco for payroll purposes, including name, Social Security number, account numbers or similar information," the notification letter read. Sysco is offering two years of free identity protection services to impacted individuals.
